Bathrooms Can Make a Claim to Be a Lot of Things

c:the most in-demand room in the house between the hours of 7am and 9am;a relaxing retreat for you to unwind after a days'work and a place to clean the dog all at once. But despite all these practicalities, the smallest room in the house isn't very, well, interesting.

And slim wonder. While guests may walk into any other room in your house and be wowed by the trend-tipping patterned wallpapers, modern ceiling lights and trendy slate surfaces, bathrooms are constrained by the necessary application of tiles and waterproof grout.

Which puts the onus even more on your colour scheme. And as interior design guru Robert Carslaw of Robert Carslaw Designs attests,'pale'and'interesting'go hand-in-hand.

"The trend seems to be pale everything,"says the expert, carefully applying sunscreen and standing under an umbrella. And as Mr Carslaw notes,a pale bathroom allows your features-anything from a shelf full of shells to an expansive sea view or an interesting textured surface on the walls-to shine.

"In a country house I worked on recently,I upholstered the walls,in both the guest cloakroom and a vanity bathroom in the principal bedroom suite.

"With views of the sea,it has character, charm and a rich and luxurious quality, without being in any way pretentious."

But to truly make your bathroom shine you need to actually put shiny things in it,in the form of bathroom ceiling spotlights. With all the various jobs your bathroom sees you tackle, you need strong illumination without it being clinical, and that's where spotlights are perfect.

You can even install them in your shower cubicle, with shower lights allowing you to see exactly which tropical fruit shampoo you're searching for.
