The Average Price of 40W Retrofit LED Light Bulb Dropped by 7.7% in Japan

The global average price of 40W retrofit LED light bulbs in January 2013 increased by 4% on month, reaching US$19.4/unit, while the price of 60W retrofit LED light bulbs dropped by 4.3% on month, at US$29.6/unit, according to studies. Among all regions, the price drop in Japan was the most significant.

According to market research institutes, the January prices of 40W retrofit LED light bulbs in the UK showed an on-month increase of 14% because a spate of promotions had ended. In Germany, the prices of 40W retrofit LED light bulbs increased by 5.1% on month due to currency depreciation. In the US market, the average price increased by 5.5% on month.

The prices of 40W retrofit LED light bulbs in South Korea showed an on-month increase of 0.9% due to currency depreciation, but in Japan, the average price dropped by 7.7% due to promotional sales.

The prices of 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in Japan also dropped by 13.4% on month to US$28.4/unit, said the studies. The drop was due to the introduction of new low-priced products.

Market research institutes added South Korea-based firms continue to use low-priced products to increase shares in the US and Europe markets. LG introduced new 14W LED light bulbs to replace the 60W incandescent light bulbs with luminous flux up to 850 lumens in January 2013. The retail prices of the product in Europe are around US$28-30/unit.
