Taiwan-Based LED Makers Need to Leverage Advantages in Terms of Technology and Patents

In order to tap the large market in China, Taiwan-based LED makers need to leverage advantages in terms of technology, patents and production management to forge cooperation with fellow makers in China, according to industry sources. The LED supply chain in China is concentrated on the downstream sector – LED lighting modules and lamps. China has fewer LED epitaxial wafer and chip makers, and limited providers of LED chip packaging services. This is where Taiwan-based makers can complement, the sources said. As LED lighting in China focuses on public lighting currently, Taiwan-based makers planning to tap the market should participate in local governmental procurement projects through partnerships with China-based LED makers, the sources indicated.
