The P Zero Nero GT Has Greater Tread Life Than Its Predecessor

The P Zero Nero GT has greater tread life than its predecessor thanks to: 1) compounding changes, and 2) mold and spec changes that result in "more contact in the shoulders," says?Steve Carpino, vice president of research and development.

Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has applied its latest technological advancements to the Pirelli P Zero Nero summer tire. The result is the P Zero Nero GT.

The ultra-high performance replacement tire is the latest step in the company's focus on the American consumer under Chairman and CEO Paolo Ferrari. It follows the launch of the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus last fall.

"With the P7 All Season Plus, we improved tread wear performance along with achieving a significant reduction in rolling resistance," he says. "We were able to replicate a similar scenario with the Nero GT, increasing tread wear without compromising any of the performance features."

Compared to the P Zero Nero, the P Zero Nero GT is superior in the following categories: dry handling, dry braking and tread wear. Pirelli's engineers were able to improve on those characteristics without compromising the orginal tire's wet handling and braking, comfort, aquaplaning (in the straightaway) and rolling resistance characteristics.

In the coming years, Pirelli is committed to annually debuting new replacement market offerings in North America that broaden the brand's portfolio at a faster rate than ever before, adds Ferrari.

Utilizing optimized materials, the P Zero Nero GT features wide continuous ribs and an asymmetric tread design that allows for pattern stiffness and a more stable footprint. This ensures fast cornering reaction, better handling and improved dry braking.

An increased contact patch allows for enhanced durability, resulting in 20% more mileage than its predecessor. This targeted tread pattern set-up also helps maintain constant ride comfort and comparatively reduced noise level throughout the life of the tire.

Pirelli will release the P Zero Nero GT in 26 17-, 18- and 19–inch XL sizes that fit a wide array of vehicles from sports coupes to larger, high-powered sedans. There also is one non-XL size: 255/45ZR18 99Y.

17-inch (6): 225/55ZR17 101W to 215/40ZR17 87W.

18-inch (9): 225/45ZR18 95Y to 255/35ZR18 94Y.

19-inch (12): 225/40ZR19 (93Y) to 275/30ZR19 (96Y).

Over the course of the year, the line will expand to 60 sizes.

The GT will compete against the Continental ExtremeContact DW, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Bridgestone Potenza RE060A and Hankook Ventus V12 evo.
