Addivant's Liquid Antioxidant Received FDA Approval for Food Contact Applications

Polymer additive technologies provider Addivant announced that its WESTON 705 liquid antioxidant has secured the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for food contact applications.

Following the approval, WESTON 705 antioxidant, said to be the next generation of nonylphenol-free phosphite technology, can be used in a wide range of food packaging from deli wrap to snack food bags and from carton liners to boil-in bags.

The clear, colorless and odorless liquid, which also supports major conversion trends such as multilayer films and coated, laminated films, can also be used for non-food and non-packaging applications.

The highly effective WESTON 705 antioxidant stabilizer protects polymers from degradation during use.

The product, which looks, handles and functions like WESTON TNPP phosphate, is nonylphenol free and higher in phosphorous.

Addivant's WESTON 705 antioxidant is said to be useful for PE producers, converters, retailers and consumers.

Addivant president and CEO Peter Smith said the company has developed WESTON 705 liquid antioxidant bearing the future in mind

"Not only does this technology overcome the drawbacks of conventional solid phosphites, it also enables our customers to capitalize on their latent technology to further enhance the polymer architecture allowing them to meet the needs of the very latest in processing systems, end markets and applications," Smith added.

The company claims that the antioxidant helps boost consumer confidence about the safety and sustainability of food packaging.
