Westrock to Construct New Corrugated Packaging Facility in Brazil

Paper and packaging solutions provider WestRock has unveiled plans to construct a new corrugated box plant in Porto Feliz, a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.The facility will meet increasing demand from the company's regional customers in South America.

Construction work is anticipated to start in late 2017 and it is expected to be completed by mid of 2019.

After completion, the facility in Porto Feliz will replace WestRock's existing Brazilian corrugated operations in Valinhos.

The Porto Feliz plant will be integrated with the forestry and paper production operations of the Três Barras mill in order to speed up the consumption of virgin fiber HyPerform corrugated paper.

The new facility will be serving all industry segments including markets in Sao Paulo region and other growing areas in southeast region of Brazil.

WestRock CEO Steve Voorhees said: “Our new corrugated packaging plant will enable our exceptional team in Brazil to serve these customers even better in the future, with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that will provide new capabilities and efficiencies for our customers, and to further integrate the containerboard that we manufacture in Brazil.”

Recently, WestRock has acquired Australia-based Hanna Group which supplies folding cartons to diversified sectors including beverage, food, confectionary, and healthcare.

In June, WestRock has agreed to purchase all the assets of New York-based Island Container and an affiliate named Combined Container Industries.

The packaging company manages a workforce of around 45,000 employees and more than 300 business units are found across North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
