US Issued Final Rules on Providing Women with Coverage for Contraceptive Services

The US government has issued final rules on providing women with coverage for contraceptive services without sharing cost.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said, "Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to respect the concerns of houses of worship and other non-profit religious organizations that object to contraceptive coverage, while helping to ensure that women get the care they need, regardless of where they work."

The final rules allow employers of religious organisations to exclude contraceptive coverage from their health plans for their employees and their dependents.

In addition, they also allow religious organisations to arrange, pay for or refer contraceptive coverage to women enrolled in their health plans at no cost.

The final rules provide more details on the accommodation for both insurers and third party administrators.
