US based electric vehicle transit technology vehicle maker Proterra has sold two 40-foot battery-electric transit vehicles, along with a fast charge system to the King County Metro in Seattle, US.

King County Metro already uses diesel-hybrid vehicles and electric trolley and the company has bought the two battery powered electric transit vehicles for one year trial.

Following the completion the trial, King County will buy 200 more buses from Proterra.

Funding for the upcoming 40-foot zero-emission electric buses and fast charge system will be provided by King County and FTA TIGGER funding in 2015.

Proterra CEO Ryan Popple said: "Driven by strong economic and environmental benefits, the public transportation market is adopting EV technology and proving-out the business case."

"In addition to having a positive impact on the Seattle area, King County Metro's willingness to adopt EV buses as a means to reduce emissions and fuel costs will help other agencies understand and perfect the deployment of EV transit vehicles."
