Due to lacking a full federal inspection, a California beef processor is recalling 41,683 pounds of beef, in whole carcasses and in parts in boxes it shipped to meat markets in northern areas of the state.
Petuluma-based Rancho Feeding Corporation recalled 41,683 pounds of beef products that are not fit for human consumption because the products did not get the proper inspection from USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The following is a list of recalled items:
- beef carcasses, 50-lb boxes of “beef feet”
- 20-lb boxes of “beef extail”
- 50-lb boxes of “beef hearts”
- both 30-lb and 60-lb boxes of “beef livers”
- 30 lb boxes of “beef cheeks”
- 60-lb boxes of “beef tripe”
- 30-lb boxes of “beef tongue.”
All the beef products were distributed in California to the Del Monte Meat Co. in American Canyon, C&M Meat Company in Berkeley, LaMorenita Market and Vallergas’s Market in Napa, Del Monte Meat Co; and the Prime Smoked Meats in Oakland, and RBR Meats in Vernon.
The recalled beef carcasses and boxes bear the establishment number “EST. 527” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each box carries the case code number “ON904” and were produced on Jan. 8, 2014.
The apparent slip-up occurred when the beef parts were produced without antemortem inspections required by federal regulations. It is not likely that any of the beef was consumed.
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks and posted the retail distribution list on its website.
