GE Wins China Hydropower Plant Contract

U.S.-based General Electric has won a contract to supply turbines to the Wudongde hydropower plant located in southwest China.

The company will provide six turbine-generator sets and related equipment, accounting for half of the project's capacity.

But financial details of the contract have not been revealed.

The Wudongde hydropower plant project was approved by the Chinese government last week.

The project would cost 100 billion yuan or some 16 billion U.S. dollars and be the third largest hydropower plant in the country among projects that are finished and being built.

Its constructor China Three Gorges said it will cut coal consumption by 12 million tons a year.
