Germany-based Heidelberger Druckmaschinen has acquired Fujifilm’s coatings and pressroom chemicals operations in the EMEA region.
The acquisition allows the German firm to expand in the segment related to consumables.
The transaction is in line the company’s growth strategy to develop a cross-sector portfolio, geared towards specific consumer requirements.
It is also the company’s logical step in expanding its consumables portfolio, after it acquired the UK-based coating manufacturer Hi-Tech Coatings in 2008 and BluePrint in 2014.
Heidelberger recently announced the adaption of a new structure for its digital future.
As part of the restructuring, the company launched the Heidelberg Digital Technology (HDT) and Heidelberg Digital Business & Services (HDB) segments established on April 1, 2017.
While HDT combines operations in sheetfed offset, label printing and postpress and will shoulder the responsibility of developing, producing and marketing appropriate technologies and products for new business models.
HDB will manage its operations in services, consumables, remarketed equipment, digital printing technology and solutions throughout the value-added chain.
Heidelberg CEO Rainer Hundsdörfer said: “We are systematically gearing our portfolio towards profitable growth.

As its partner, Fujifilm will continue to supply total pressroom solutions to place customers.
