Syria's Car Imports Declined in the First 11 Months of 2012

The statistical report released by the General Administration of Customs of Damascus shows that in the first 11 months of 2012, Syria’s car imports were not over 2,019 and revenue was not over 93 million Syria pounds. Auto imports in 2011 were 35,490, with revenue not more than 5.218 billion and Syria pounds. In 2010, the figures were 8.8072 million and 4.268 billion Syria pounds.

Syrian car sales in 2012 were 67,840, while in 2010 were 76,533.

A car importer said, because customers could not guarantee to amortize loans in time, car banks in Syria stopped auto loan business, which was one of the factors leading to the decline in car sales. Weak auto market impacts the development of iron products, machinery and maintenance supplies, and other related industries.
