Float Glass Is Manufactured and Leading Design & Delivery

Tags: glass, decoration

The Float Glass term is derived from the manufacturing process where molten glass is poured from the furnace and floated evenly onto a bed of molten tin.The glass is gently cooled under controlled conditions to anneal the glass which enables the glass to be cut and modified.

Float glass is manufactured and available in Clear, Tinted,Reflective, Low Iron, Textured/Patterned and KlymetShield Low E.

FGI Clear Float Glass

FGI Clear Float Glass is a high quality, visually colourless and distortion free flat surface, providing high light transmission (daylight) and clarity. Clear Float glass is the core base product for most of our common glass products and is commonly used in general window glazing and furniture.

FGI Tinted Float Glass

FGI Tinted Float Glass is produced by adding metal oxides during the manufacturing of clear float glass. FGI tinted glass absorbs and re-radiates solar energy reducing heat, providing cost efficient climate control. Tinted Float also reduces sun glare and is aesthetically appealing.

FGI Tinted Float is available in the most commonly used colours: Grey, Green, Bronze & Blue. Many of these colours are now available in a range of depth of colour (light to dark) and in High Performance options.

FGI Reflective Glass

FGI Reflective Glass achieves even greater solar control than standard tinted float glass by more effectively absorbing and reflecting a major percentage of the sun’s direct energy.

The metallic coating applied during the manufacturing process creates a highly reflective appearance. As the coating is extremely durable, “hard coat” reflective glasses can be glazed with the reflective coating to either the inside or outside of the building depending on aesthetics and performance required.

FGI currently provides the following “hard coat” reflective glass products in the below colours: Clear, Neutral, Green, Grey, Bronze and Blue.

FGI Low Iron Glass

FGI Low Iron Float Glass is manufactured in the same manner as ordinary float glass with a large percentage (approximately 90%) of the iron content removed. This process lessens the inherent green tinge evident in normal standard float glass. This difference can predominately be seen when viewing the glass on its edge, when many panels are stacked together or when coated on one side in light colours.
