LG to Launch Its First 4G Enabled Wearable at MWC 2015

Smartwatches are here to stay it seems, with latest reports suggesting LG will launch its first 4G enabled wearable at MWC 2015.

With the company having recently backed up the LG G Watch with the round-faced G Watch R, claimed ‘industry sources’ have now been cited in suggesting a cellular enabled timepiece is in the works.

Such a device would allow users to make and receive calls direct from their wrist without the need for a synced smartphone.

It is believed the watch – reportedly dubbed the LG G Watch R2 – will land as a high-speed rival to the 3G supporting Samsung Gear S.

Expected to mimic the G Watch R’s round display, the Moto 360 challenger is expected to run Google’s Android Wear OS.

With the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress meeting set to run between March 2 and 5, LG’s 4G smartwatch could be with us less than six months after R’s IFA unveiling.

Although standalone call making is sure to appease some users, it is far from the most coveted smartwatch feature.
Early devices have left consumers wanting when it comes to battery life, with few smartwatches getting past two days usage on a single charge.

As well as acting as a further drain on the device’s minimal staying power, 4G connectivity will likely come at an increased cost for users who will need an additional data plan.

We have contacted LG for comment on the validity of these leaks. We will update this post accordingly as soon as we hear back.
