Klockner Pentaplast Wants to Enlarge It's Global Film Production Capacity

Klockner Pentaplast has announced plans to invest €45.6m as part of its 2013–2014 expansion plans. which include facilities in Cotia, Brazil; Suzhou, China; Newport/Crumlin, Great Britain; and Santo Tirso, Portugal.

The company will install a €6m extrusion line at its Newport/Crumlin, Great Britain manufacturing facility for polyester films, which are primarily used for food and consumer packaging applications.

According to the rigid film solutions producer, the extrusion line is expected to start-up in July 2014 and will add 8,000 metric tons (mt) of capacity.

In July 2013, Klockner Pentaplast had unveiled its first packaging films production facility at the Suzhou Industrial Park in China with an investment of €22.5m.

The China plant has increased the company's production capacity by 6,600mt to address double-digit shrink-sleeve growth in Asia.

Also in 2013, the company has added 8,000mt of capacity to its polyester film manufacturing plant at Santo Tirso in Portugal.

The €5.5m expansion of Santo Tirso plant has supported the company's growing European food and consumer packaging films markets.

Klockner Pentaplast has expanded its Cotia manufacturing facility, located at Sao Paulo in Brazil, to produce 1,200mt of additional coating and laminating capacity.

The Cotia plant will begin producing additional coating and laminating capacity, suitable for the production of Pentapharm alfoil PVdC-coated and Pentapharm ACLAR-laminated packaging films for the pharmaceutical industry, in December 2013.

In Brazil, the company will increase its PVC calendering capacity by 12,000mt to service the pharmaceutical, food, print, card, and general-purpose thermoforming markets.

The increased capacity will come online in June 2014 followed by matte calendering capacity in November 2014.

The total cost of the expansion project is estimated at €11.6m.
