Textile and Clothing Exports From Pakistan Surged 10.96 Percent in July 2013

Buoyed mainly by rise in demand, particularly from western markets, textile and clothing exports from Pakistan surged 10.96 percent in July 2013 over July 2012, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data show.
 
According to the data, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports jumped from US$ 1.09 billion in July 2012 to US$ 1.21 billion in July this year.
 
Raw cotton exports from Pakistan surged 476.56 percent from US$ 1.52 million in July 2012 to US$ 8.76 million in July 2013.
 
Meanwhile, cotton yarn exports grew by 15.55 percent from US$ 174.57 million to US$ 201.71 million, cotton cloth by 16.18 percent from US$ 199.75 million to US$ 232.07 million and other textile material by 1.64 percent from US$ 36.99 million to US$ 37.60 million.
 
Exports of knitwear increased by 0.99 percent from US$ 201.25 million to US$ 203.23 million, bedwear by 9.6 percent from US$ 155.81 million to US$ 170.76 million, and of woven readymade garments by 16.28 percent from US$ 157.14 million to US$ 182.71 million, during the month under review.
 
Among other segments that registered an increase in exports during the month were towels, whose exports grew by 7.1 percent from US$ 61.27 million to US$ 65.62 million; art, silk and synthetic textiles by 3.86 percent from US$ 36.42 million to US$ 37.83 million; and made-up articles, excluding towels and bedwear, by 5.81 percent from US$ 54.57 million to US$ 57.75 million.
 
However, exports of cotton carded or combed dropped 65.96 percent from US$ 235,000 to US$ 80,000 during the period, while that of yarn other than cotton yarn dipped by 2.9 percent from US$ 3.82 million to US$ 3.71 million.
 
On a month-on-month basis, textile exports jumped by 6.45 percent in July 2013 against exports of US$ 1.14 billion made in June 2013.
 
Exports of cotton carded or combed increased the most by 56.86 percent month-on-month in July 2013, while raw cotton exports grew by 22.46 percent, bedwear by 12.22 percent, towels by 10.97 percent, made up articles excluding towels and bedwear by 9.41 percent, cotton yarn by 8.05 percent, knitwear by 7.63 percent, readymade garments by 6.53 percent, cotton cloth by 3.92 percent, and art, silk and synthetic textiles by 2.2 percent.
 
However, exports of other textile material and yarn other than cotton yarn plummeted by 4.54 percent month-on-month and 10.32 percent month-on-month, respectively, during the period.
 
During last fiscal year which ended on June 30, 2013, textile and clothing exports from Pakistan grew by 5.9 percent from US$ 12.34 billion in 2011-12 to US$ 13.06 billion.
