Genesis Photonics Will Defer Kicking off Production at Its Factory in Kunshan

LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics will defer kicking off production at its factory in Kunshan, eastern China, from the end of 2013 as originally scheduled to after the 2014 Lunar New Year which falls on January 31, according to company chairman David Chung.

The Kunshan factory will focus on LED module production, Chung said. Genesis currently has 70 MOCVD sets for a monthly production capacity of 200,000 2-inch-equivalent LED wafers and does not plan to expand capacity for the time being, Chung indicated.

Genesis' clients include Taiwan-based LED packaging houses, Japan- and South Korea-based consumer electronics vendors and China-based smartphone vendors and LED packagers, Chung noted.

Genesis started production of high-current, high-lumen and wire-free LED flip chips for use in outdoor LED lighting in the first quarter of 2013, with the product adopted for LED street lamps by China-based clients, Chung noted.

Genesis currently has 80% of consolidated revenues coming from blue-light LED chips and 15-20% from green-light and UV chips and expects LED flip chips to account for 10-15% of 2014 consolidated revenues, Chung said.
