Italian flexible packaging company SCEA has invested in BOBST gravure technology.

The rapid expansion required SCEA to relocate to a larger production facility in Zevio, near Verona, in 2008 in order to accommodate the increasing number of production lines.

SCEA’s production serves primarily the food packaging, label and disposable plates and trays market sectors, supplying very large customer bases, in both domestic and export markets averaging 3000 tons of goods per year.

To upgrade the performance of the gravure department and gain the cost savings and productivity benefits of latest technology and equipment, SCEA carried out a diligent consideration of all gravure printing options and installed a 10-colour BOBST RS 4003MPgravure printing line at the end of 2016.

The press has been designed with shaftless cylinders having a web width up to 1350 mm. It has a capability to process range of packaging films at high production speed and posses changeover ability.

SCEA said that within six months of installation of the gravure technology, the company has noticed a significant result in terms of print quality, production efficiency and flexibility.

SCEA managing director Mauro Pattaro said: “The machine’s register performance is excellent in providing consistency throughout long run production, as well as fast register correction at speed variations, keeping waste to minimal levels.

“We also appreciate the high production flexibility that derives from the fast job changeover times required for short runs.”

Adding on Pattaro said that the packaging company can supply a range of capabilities required for broad spectrum of materials and application demands rising in gravure printing.

In March, a Spanish firm, Covinil, has invested in new Bobst Integrated Solution to convert AlOx high barrier transparent films.

The company has purchased new K5000 2450 mm vacuum metallizer, which features Bobst process innovations including DarkNight for high barrier metallized films, AluBond for high metal adhesion and AlOx for high barrier transparent films.

BOBST is a provider of equipment and services to packaging and label manufacturers for folding carton, corrugated board and flexible materials industries.

SCEA majorly serves the food packaging, label and disposable plates and trays market sectors by providing required customer bases together in domestic and export markets averaging 3,000 tons of goods per year.
