Over 20,000 Street Lights Have Been Recently Installed Within Beibei District

Over 20,000 street lights made up of 1.9 m Cree XLamp XP-E and XP-G LEDs have been recently installed within the Beibei district of Chongqing, China.

The massive municipal intelligent lighting control project of China commenced in July 2011 that involves 16 mi of highway. Cree LED-based luminaires were successfully installed in one tunnel and across 119 streets. Officials evaluate that the installation of Cree LEDs will contribute to the annual maintenance and electricity conservation of over 19.5 M RMB and 17.6 M kWh.

The Beibei District's Municipal Bureau started this lighting control project in order to comply with China's rigorous roadway lighting requirements for light efficacy, luminance, brightness, heat dissipation and service duration, and also to provide a better living environment for local citizens. Chongqing Silian Optoelectronics Science and Technology Corporation (Silian), a China-based LED lighting company designed street lights with CreeXLamp LEDs, substituting sodium-vapor street lighting in the Yuwu Highway that stretches from Chongqing to Wusheng.

The intelligent lighting control system was designed and developed by Silian. It consists of an advanced wireless network management system that uses sensors to identify the errors in lighting, thereby optimizing the brightness of the LED street lights with respect to vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow. Integrated with LED street lighting, this control system ensures Beibei District with optimal lighting and energy efficiency.
