The First Images of The Volkswagen Crossblue Coupe Concept Have Been Leaked

The first images of the Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe concept have been leaked ahead of its official unveiling at tomorrow’s Shanghai auto show.

The five-door, five-seat Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe concept is the German manufacturer’s follow-up to its seven-seat CrossBlue concept revealed in Detroit earlier this year and looks set to preview a future rival to the Range Rover Evoque luxury compact SUV.

Sleeker and more sporting in appearance than its squarer styled sibling, the Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe concept has a narrow front grille and LED headlight assembly, large front air intakes and a bonnet with twin air vents positioned back towards the heavily raked windscreen. Hard-wearing plastic cladding features along the car’s lower edges covering the front and rear underbody, side skirts and wheel arches.

Matt aluminium trim highlights the bottom of the doors, underbody protection plates, exhaust surround and roof rails, while a tailgate-mounted rear spoiler, LED tail-lights and dual exhaust outlets compete the rear end.

Inside shares a similar basic layout to the original CrossBlue concept with a flat-bottom steering wheel, large gear lever, centrally-mounted display screen flanked by black air vents and a wide centre console, although the new CrossBlue Coupe appears more upmarket with gloss-black trim details and darker seat materials.

Screens mounted to the back of the driver and passenger headrests also feature as part of a rear-seat entertainment system.

While the CrossBlue seven-seater was powered by a 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and two electric motors for a combined output of 225kW and 700Nm, and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds, top speed of 204km/h, 2.1 litres per 100km fuel consumption and pure electric range of up to 33km, early reports suggest the CrossBlue Coupe could get a turbocharged V6 engine, again supported by two electric motors, for nearer to 300kW, with 0-100km/h reduced to 5.9 seconds, average fuel consumption up slightly to 3.0L/100km and an all-electric range matched at 33km.
