The eighth International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair began on October 17, 2012 at Uzexpocentre in Tashkent.

Both domestic and overseas companies engaged in cotton and textile businesses are participating in the two-day fair.

Samples of a wide variety of products from Uzbek light industry including cotton, cotton yarn, fabric, knitted garments and silk items are being displayed at the fair.

The participants at the fair will have an opportunity to sign contracts for Uzbek cotton as well as to participate in the cotton trading session on Uzbek commodity exchange.

The fair will also hold discussions on current problems and prospects for the world cotton market. Well-known experts will put across their views on different topics such as 'World cotton and textile market: demand and supply, prices and factors'; 'Current state and prospects of production and marketing of cotton in Uzbekistan'; 'New technologies to increase cotton competitiveness'; 'World market of cotton textile: present and future'; and 'Investment climate and foreign investors in cotton and textile industry of Uzbekistan'.

Last year, the fair was visited by over 650 representatives of more than 325 companies from 38 countries. The number of visitors at the fair is expected to increase this year.

Moreover, compared to earlier fairs where mostly cotton and cotton yarn sale deals were signed, contracts for fabric and garment exports are also expected to be signed at this year's fair.

There is also a cotton exhibition, where over 800 different types of cotton, possessing a quality certificate from 'Sifat', are on display.
