Called Cubetto, the play-set from Primo toys has secured over $400k on Kickstarter with a project that teaches youngsters the basics of coding.

A tech-infused wooden toy play-set designed to teach pre-schoolers the basics of coding has smashed its Kickstarter fundng goal by more than 400 per cent.

Created by the team known as Primo Toys, the Cubetto is billed as a coding toy for girls and boys and is powered by what the firm describes as a ‘tangible programme language,’ letting youngsters get to grips with the basics from an early age.

Cubetto – a hands on coding toy for kids aged three years and upwards – launched to the crowdfunding site earlier this month with the target of reaching $100,000 in funding.

Within days, the project had quadrupled the original goal amount in pledges, taking it to $417,341 in funding with 21 days on the site still to go.

Approved by Montessori and inspired by the LOGO Turtle, the playset is made up of three elements: a friendly wooden robot who likes to be told where to go and how to get there, a physical programming console and a set of coding blocks that ‘make up a real programming language that kids can touch.’

“The blocks are instructions that kids combine into a programme to get the Cubetto Robot from a to b,” said Filippo Yacob, co-founder and CEO of Primo Toys through the project’s Kickstarter video.

“Kids can play with algorithms, functions and loops and there is no right or wrong way to play, we want to create a global standard in early learning and programming learning. We want learning this skill to be tangible, fun and a playful game for youngsters.”

Global reception to the Cubetto play-set has already been positive, with 800 beta products having already been sent to schools across the globe.

The Cubetto project will be fully funded on Thursday, April 7th.
