Madrid Shows High Competitiveness with The Presence of Nearly 15% of Spanish Apparel Units

Madrid Very Competitive with 15% of Spanish Apparel Units

The apparel sector of Spanish province of Madrid has shown high competitiveness with the presence of nearly 15 percent of the country’s total 10,000 apparel companies, said the Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Consumer Protection of the Community of Madrid.

Deputy Minister Manuel Beltran said the apparel companies in Madrid have created job opportunities for around 6,000 people in the province.
 
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Fashion and Apparel of the Community of Madrid (ASECOM), Mr. Beltran said Madrid’s apparel sector has shown a year-on-year increase of 20.6 percent in the exports in 2012 and the exports continue to grow in the current year.
 
Mr. Beltran said the apparel companies in Madrid account for 10 percent of the country’s overall apparel exports. The province has a potential to become a highly competitive sector in Spain with the help of the regional government, he added.
 
The overall Spanish textile and garment exports grew by 8.7 percent to €2.871 billion during the first quarter of 2013, compared to exports of €2.641 billion made during the corresponding quarter of last year.
