Insignia Is Planning Global Expansion of Its Food Packaging Ink After Receiving Funding

Insignia Technologies, which has developed a new food packaging ink that can help lower food waste,is planning global expansion after receiving funding.

The new ink changes its color when it is exposed to oxygen,UV light, humidity levels and other external influences. The smart pigment can be incorporated into plastic food packaging.

If the packaging is damaged, the packaging shows a color change, which allows manufacturers to withdraw the product even before it is introduced in the store shelves. This can help minimize food wastage and also enable consumers to know if the food is safe to eat, reported Foodproductiondaily.com.

For the project,Insignia Technologies has received a funding of £100,000 from Smart:Scotland-a support grant scheme in Scotland aimed supporting at small and medium-sized firms.Earlier,it also received £710,000 funding from Young Innovative Enterprise funding, which is supported by the European Union.

Insignia Technologies was established in August 2012,following the merger between the inks firm Insigniapack and a spin-out company from the University of Strathclyde-Novas Technologies.
