Nike's Chief Designer Sticks to His Promise to Deliver The Real Deal in 2015

We’re just a week into 2015, but already you’ve probably seen umpteen articles about the Back to the Future II tech we have and haven’t got yet.

To save you unnecessarily visiting Buzzfeed or whatever, here’s the lowdown: we won’t have flying cars, food hydrators, or Pepsi Perfect. What a shame.

However, aside from this working hoverboard, one silver lining comes in the form of Marty McFly’s Nike Air Mag shoes with self-tying power laces. Nike’s chief designer is sticking to his promise to deliver the real deal in 2015.

The aptly-named Tinker Hatfield says the sportswear giant is still beavering away on delivering the trainers in 2015, almost a year after they were first promised.

As reported by Nice Kicks, Hatfield told attendees at the Agenda 2015 trade show, in California, the firm still has “11 and two-thirds months left” to meet his pledge. With that little snippet, the designer isn’t saying exactly when they’ll arrive, but it seems like it will be before the end of the year.

Nike has released limited edition versions of the iconic piece of footwear before, minus the power laces. They sold for thousands on eBay and raised millions for Michael J. Fox’s charity for Parkinson’s disease.

Meanwhile, back in November 2014, a pair of auto-lacing shoes called Powerlace arrived on Kickstarter. However, they failed to meet their funding goal and didn’t look anywhere near as cool as the Nike Air Mags.
