The HP Eco Solutions Printing Awards Recognise Australian and New Zealand Businesses

The HP Eco Solutions Printing Awards recognise Australian and New Zealand businesses that are leaders in their industries for driving environmentally sustainable methods in imaging and printing.

The winners of the 2012 awards are:

· The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (Australia)

· TAFE NSW Sydney Institute

· Ericsson Australia

· Vodafone New Zealand

The finalists for the awards in Australia also included Allens Arthur Robinson, Catholic Education Office of Western Australia, American Express, Freehills, and Australian Paper.

Finalists in New Zealand also included Mainfreight Limited and CCDHB.

For the 2012 awards, HP partnered with IDC to conduct a study from January to March 2012 in order to determine organisations that demonstrate environmentally sustainable practices for imaging and printing.

IDC developed a survey, which was completed by 45 organisations across Australia and New Zealand, focusing on the criteria of leadership, strategy, execution and disposal practices in the context of the printing environment. HP consultants then conducted a full onsite environmental assessment of all finalists for the process of identifying the award winners.

Key findings of the study found that of Australian and New Zealand companies surveyed:

· 51 per cent have a dedicated sustainability team in place.

· 80 per cent believe it's important to key stakeholders that their organisation is making an effort to reduce environmental impact of their business operations.

· 17 per cent disclose performance against green goals/objectives externally.

· 87 per cent recycle printing hardware when obsolete.

· 49 per cent have green requirements in procurement policy for IT and printing products.

· 69 per cent use software to manage/track print fleet in order to reduce supplies, paper usage and energy consumption.

· 87 per cent use power-save mode for print fleet for off-peak hours.

· 81 per cent use consumable auto-ordering solutions to reduce carbon footprint from transportation and shipping.
