Here's How Long Google Will Support Your Nexus Device

Just bought one of Google's latest flagship Nexus phones? You might be interested to know that you've got just over a year before the software support stops.

Google has updated its support page for Android software updates to show how long it will support current Nexus devices.

And at the top of the list are the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, both of which are schedule for a September 2017 cutoff, after which no further software updates or security patches can be 'guaranteed'.

It should be noted that the company's use of the phrase 'no guaranteed Android version updates' suggests it could still provide updates after the cut off point.

Elsewhere Nexus 9 users have got until October this year until the support ends, as do Nexus 6 users.

As Nexus devices are Google's own hardware, they almost always get the latest version of Android before any other handsets or tablets on the market.

Just this week, a report suggested that HTC is currently working on two new Nexus handsets, codenamed 'Marlin' and 'Sailfish', which could be launched this year.

So if you're looking to pick up a Nexus device it might well be worth waiting to see how this latest rumour pans out, rather than buying a 5X or 6P ahead of the support cut-off point.
