AEPC Organized Bsm for Apparel and Related Accessories in New York, USA

AEPC as part of its export promotion initiatives for the first time has organized BSM for apparel and related accessories in New York, USA. The BSM was held between 28th and 29thJanuary 2013 at the Penn Plaza Pavilion, at New York. 

Ms. Nirupama Rao, Ambassador of India to USA, inaugurated the fair on 28th at New York. Speaking on the opening she said, “We are happy to learn that AEPC is organizing their Buyer Seller Meet in New York from January 28th - 29th, with a contingent of top apparel exporting companies from India. We are pleased to work with the AEPC in the organization of this show, which we are confident will further spur and deepen the commercial engagement of Indian Apparel Exporters in the U.S. market.”  

Ambassador also expressed happiness at the renewal of the Commercial Dialogue between the two countries. BSM New York will provide the forum in which both the e India and U.S. private sectors can collaborate on issues of mutual interest, thereby ensuring that our trade relationship continues to grow and diversify. 

Chairman AEPC, Dr. A Sakthivel commented on the inauguration by stating that, “Buyer- seller- Meet at New York aimed at B-2-B meeting for the bulk booking with an objective of discovering new range of USA markets including womenswear, menswear, High Fashion and occasional wear, knitwear, kidswear, etc. The Buyer Seller Meet was arranged with 35 booths. This fair included participant like buyers and importers, buying house and agents, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, brand owners, and mail orders companies among others.  

AEPC via this BSM has taken an imitative to tap the renewed momentum. AEPC has also tied up with a New York based company Trade goods which is a B2B sourcing community that connected the buyers and suppliers.  USA is the number one destination for the export of Indian apparels.  During 2011, the garment imports to USA from World were around US$ 81514.10 million dollars.  India exports garments of worth US$ 3534.40 million to USA, which accounts for 4.33% share in USA’s total garment imports. Apparel imports of the United States witnessed an increase of 0.5 per cent in Jan-May 2012 from the corresponding period of previous year and amounted to 29.5 billion dollars.

Commenting on the strengths of Indian Garments and Textiles Industry, Chairman AEPC, Dr. A Sakthivel, during inauguration said, “In recent year India has been the focal point of continuous growth. India manufactures 236 products across all categories of Knitted and Woven garments. We have about 6 million strong skilled and efficient labour force and abundant availability of natural Cotton and Silk fabrics and man-made fabrics. We have our own cotton & cotton yarn, we are the third largest  producer of raw cotton, second largest producer of cotton yarn, second largest producer of cellulosic fibre / yarn, second largest producer of silk, fifth largest producer of synthetic fibre / yarn and  largest producer of jute in the world.”

The big companies include Eastman Exports Global Clothing (P) Ltd., Famina Knit Fabs, Modelama Exports Ltd., Pee Emrpo Exports Pvt. Ltd., Shah Originals, Suryavanshi 2Spinning Mills Ltd. etc. they have been supplying apparel to the top brands of the world. Their companies are fully complaint and meet all the specifications that the international brands need to buy.

Chairman AEPC further informed that, the apparel industry in India is unique in its coverage substantial overseas business primarily with USA. I earnestly hope that this Buyer Seller Meet will be fruitful in generation of further links in the chain of friendship between the two nations. I am sure that the BSM would provide a unique platform for American apparel buyers to analyze and take long term sourcing decisions and exhibitors to interact and trade with numerous top buyers at one place. I welcome all buyers to the BSM and wish them a fruitful business with Indian Exhibitors, he added.

The Buyer Seller Meet was arranged with 40 Indian participants. AEPC via this BSM has taken an imitative to tap the renewed momentum. AEPC has also tied up with a New York based company Trade goods which is a B2B sourcing community that connected the buyers and suppliers. This company has a good reputation in USA and I am sure we will get good buyers. AEPC has made all efforts and have adopted the multichannel promotional options for this BSM. The subsidiary company of Trade goods called Interatec, is expert in issues related to compliance, certification and quality testing has been roped in to maximize our efforts in getting good buyers.

This company has good reputations with the venders in India. Another agency called INC in New York has also been roped in for the door to door campaign. This time it launched exclusive web site for this BSM and have uploaded profile of the all 40 participating companies. It has also given four ads to the famous WWD magazine with the 35000 circulations in USA and each magazine carrying insertions of BSM New York fair to leverage our efforts.

Chairman appealed to the US business community to invest in India’s apparel sector. He stated that, “USA is the third largest source of FDI equity flows into India accounting for 7.4% of total inflows in the last decade. This demonstrates the confidence of the US investor community in the future of the Indian economy. With the Government of India opening up in the FDI in multibrand retail, I request that more and more US companies should invest in the apparel sector. Consequent study on the multibrand retail sector has shown that apparel sector will be the big beneficiaries of this decision.”

Apparel imports of the United States witnessed decline of -1.7 per cent in Jan-Nov. 2012 from the corresponding period of previous year and amounted to 72 billion dollars. For the same period, US imports of apparel from India declined by 9.2 per cent and reached to USD 2887 million in Jan-Nov. 2012 against USD 3180 million in Jan-Nov. 2011.  US imports saw almost decline from all major suppliers in Jan-Nov. 2012 over the corresponding period of last year except for Vietnam.
