Samsung Pay Gets a Rewards Program, Apple Pay Adds Charitable Donations

There’s been a pair of interesting developments in the world of mobile payments on Monday; with Samsung announcing a rewards program and Apple revealing making it easier to give to charity.

First up, Samsung Pay users in the United States (the service is yet to launch in the UK) will now earn points every time they use the platform to pay for goods and services.

Those points can be redeemed against Samsung products or exchanged for gift cards from major retailers.

The more folks use the service the more points they will rack up per purchase. If users make 30 or more transactions a month then they’ll earn four-times the points.

If the card you’re using within the app has its own rewards initiative, this program will not interfere with those points. In effect, users will be doubling down.

Meanwhile, Apple is making it easier for people to make charitable donations by opening up Apple Pay to non-profit organisations.

“Apple Pay is making it easier and more secure to donate to your favorite nonprofit organizations with just a touch,” the company said in an Apple Newsroom post on Monday.

“Apple Pay support for charitable donations kicks off today with nonprofits ranging from global organizations such as UNICEF to startups like charity: water, and more nonprofits will offer Apple Pay over the coming months so their supporters can make easy, secure and private payments.”

Among the charities already on board are Unicef, the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and the World Wildlife Fund.
