The New Hours-of-Service Rules That Went Into Effect Earlier This Year

The new hours-of-service rules that went into effect earlier this year rank as the top concern among US trucking executives.

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) released its annual list of trucking industry concerns this morning at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference and Exhibition.

The second biggest concern of trucking executives was the FMCSA's Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program. The driver shortage was the third, while concern about the economy lessened, placing fourth.

"ATRI's annual survey of top industry issues makes it easier for us to keep track of all the complex forces affecting motor carriers and drivers so that we can focus on running a safe and profitable industry," said ATA chairman Mike Card, president, Combined Transport in Central Point, Oregon.

"As we all know, the trucking industry constantly faces changes and challenges to how we operate safely and efficiently," added ATA president and CEO Bill Graves. "However, our industry has always responded to these issues with determination and ATRI's work gives us the information to decide where to focus our energies first and foremost."
