Diesel Locomotive Works/Varanasi in association with Research Design and Standard Organization, Lucknow has designed a 5500 HP Diesel locomotive fort freight services with state of the art technology.
This locomotive is capable of delivering 1000 HP more power vis à vis the current High Horse Power Diesel locomotives. A prototype WDG5 loco has been manufactured and is currently under safety trials. Series production of this type of locomotives has been planned and will commence after completion of the ongoing validation process.
