Latest Collection From Zaha Hadid Unveiled at The MAISON&OBJET

Zaha Hadid began developing “Collection 2016” earlier at the beginning of this year, before she died in March from a sudden heart attack. Homeware products patterned with optical illusions feature in this latest collection. Through each piece, she had hoped to convey the forms present in her architecture.

Released under the Zaha Hadid label, Collection 2016 consists of a number of scented candles and home fragrance products, tableware, vases and an abstract chess set.

The new collection utilises contrast as a key element, exploring both the use of colour and materiality. The use of traditional bone china and ceramic are juxtaposed against modern resins and acrylics. This highlights the fluid forms – Hadid’s signature design aesthetic.

Following her death, the collection was completed by her team, who used her extensive archive of paintings and drawings that she had compiled over the past 40 years. A set of mugs named Icon are patterned with outlines of some of Hadid’s most famous buildings, including the Heydar Aliyev Center and London Aquatics Centre. Two of her abstract sketches can be seen on a collection of etched glassware.

Collection 2016 was launched at the MAISON&OBJET PARIS show, running from September 2 to 6.
