Unity Opto Shipped 20 Million LED Light Bulbs in 2014 and to Ship 40 Million Units in 2015

US-based LED lighting vendor Cree has filed with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin a charge against Taiwan-based LED packaging service provider Unity Opto Technology and its US ODM client Feit Electric for alleged infringement of 10 of its LED patents, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

In response, Unity Opto indicated that it has not yet received the legal documents concerned but has tried to understand details via possible legal channels. Unity Opto said it always respects patents and is confident of its LED lighting product design and LED packaging process. It said it carefully deals with patents regarding LED lighting components when making LED lighting products.

Unity Opto shipped 20 million LED light bulbs in 2014 and aims to ship 40 million units in 2015.

Cree also launched patent infringement complaints against Taiwan-based LED packaging service providers Havatek and Kingbright Electronic in September 2014.
