The HTC One Smartphone Will Be Released in The UK

The HTC One smartphone will be released in the UK, Germany and Taiwan this week, its Taiwan of China manufacturer has announced, claiming "unprecedented demand" for its new product.

The 4.7 inch screen device will eventually roll out across the rest of Europe, North America and "most of" the Asia-Pacific region before the end of April, the company said.

The Android-based HTC One was supposed to launch earlier this month, but a shortage of key components meant it needed to be delayed.

"We appreciate our customers' patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait," read an HTC statement.

The Taiwanese firm is pinning hopes of a revival on the new smartphone, after January saw HTC post its lowest quarterly profits since 2004. Despite acknowledging that the likes of Apple and Samsung - which recently announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 - have marketing budgets that HTC can't compete with, HTC CEO Peter Chou believes his firm can close in on its rivals.

"The worst for HTC has probably passed. 2013 will not be too bad," he said earlier this year, adding "One thing I'd learned from last year is to act fast and be responsive to market changes. We are being more flexible now. We are constantly fine-tuning our sales plans and position in various markets."

Once the world's best-selling range of Android devices, analysts at Gartner estimate that HTC's share of the smartphone market could now be as little as two per cent.
