Lubrizol Introduces Two New Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified TPU Resins

Lubrizol Specialty Chemicals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corporation, is introducing two new Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) resins, for use in textiles, at the 2013 Chinaplas in Guangzhou, PR China. Estane MVT80 NT1 and Estane MVT90 NT1 are certified for use in Class I, II, III and IV by independent testing for harmful substances in textiles.

Estane MVT80 NT1 (80 shore A) and Estane MVT90 NT1 (90 shore A) are high-moisture vapor transmission resins, for use as monolithic films in textiles. This allows a garment to be waterproof yet breathable. Both resins have moisture vapor transmission values greater than 10,000 g/m²/day when tested under the ASTM International test method, E96 BW.

"Through our close contacts with several leading apparel brands, Lubrizol determined the need for developing an alternative TPU resin solution," noted Gert-Jan Nijhuis, sports and recreation global business director for Lubrizol Engineered Polymers. "These resins allow film and sheet manufacturers to offer a high-moisture vapor transmission Oeko-Tex solution to the global apparel market. Estane MVT80 NT1 and Estane MVT90 NT1 are also excellent alternatives to current solvent-based polyurethane coatings."

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production. It was developed by the International Oeko-Tex Association in response to the increasing demand by the global textile industry for safer, globally certified chemistries.
