Lucifer Lighting Company Has Unveiled The Y Series of Its LEDX Downlight Family

Designed for museums, high-end retail and hospitality applications, the Y Series 6-inch down lights deliver up to 3000 lm and feature flush mounting with the ceiling line.

For high‐ceiling applications and spaces requiring high-quality LED lighting, Lucifer Lighting Company, based in San Antonio, Texas, has unveiled the Y Series of its LEDX downlight family. The new line was first exhibited at Light+Building in April in Frankfurt, Germany, followed by Lightfair in Las Vegas, NV and the AIA National Convention in Washington, DC in May. The company will ship the downlights beginning in July 2012.

The Y Series downlights are designed for ceilings up to 30 ft tall, using LEDs that deliver 1300 lm (17W), 2000 lm (35W) and 3000 lm (53W). In addition to the very high lumen output, the LEDX fixtures can be installed with zero‐sightline, meaning that the fixture’s trim is flush with the ceiling.

"While 4.5‐inch aperture down lights with 6‐inch overall diameters represent a totally new direction for Lucifer Lighting,” says Alexandra Mathews, vice president of international sales and marketing for the company, “the minimalist proportion and elegant design of the Y Series – coupled with high technical performance, in particular for accent lighting and wall washing – are consistent with the look and functionality of our pinhole downlights, for which we are so well known.”

Mathews said that the company has received feedback from lighting designers and architects who stated they have consistently been unhappy with the scale, glare level and limited performance of high-efficiency products on the market recently. “The new Y Series is completely unique in the marketplace,” said Mathews, “achieving high levels of brightness and beam control with literally no glare, whether the ceiling is 8 feet or 30 feet.”

The downlights can be used in conjunction with the company’s pinhole Z series down lights – the Z Series for lower ceilings and the Y Series for greater heights – to create consistent lighting levels regardless of ceiling height. This makes the range especially valuable for use in the hospitality industry, in cultural venues such as museums in retail settings and high‐end residences. Both product lines can be used indoors and outdoors.

This fixture family features 45° adjustment, full locking from the room side, and the ability to accept multiple lenses and louvers. Most wide‐aperture down lights today offer reflectors on the fixture interior, which are usually visible, while the Y Series employs die‐cast baffles, with the reflectors above the baffles and mediated by a lens.

The Y Series family includes fixed, adjustable and wall‐wash fixtures for interiors and wet locations. Color temperature consistency is within a 2-step MacAdam Ellipse (2 SDCM) over a rated fixture lifetime of 50,000 hr. The fixtures are all dimmable with CRI levels of 82 or 95; are available in color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K, with optic choices of 14.5°, 24.5° and 40°.
