CREE Has Added Two Brighter Lighting LEDs to CXA Range of Multi-Die Style Devices

Cree has added two brighter lighting LEDs to its CXA range of multi-die ceramic tile style devices, sometimes known as 'arrays'.

At the top end, the cool white CXA3050 typically delivers 6,340 lm (85°C, 52W drive, 5,000K, 75CRI) which is 122 lm/W, and can be pushed to 10,100 lm with 100W drive if temperature can be kept to 55°C.

Under the same conditions, the 3,000K 80CRI warm white delivers 5,600 lm (108 lm/W) which can be pushed to 8,700 lm.

These have 27.4x27.4mm packages with a 23mm diameter round emissive area.

Nominal drive is 1.4A 37V (52W) and maximum is 2.5A (100W).

Applications are expected in high-output track lights, downlights, outdoor area lighting and high bay lighting.

"CXA3050 LED is now the brightest member of the CXA family and can enable LED replacements for up to 100W ceramic metal halide in spot lighting or up to 175W pulse-start metal halide in high-bay and outdoor area lighting," said the firm.

Slightly less power is delivered by CXA2540 LEDs which shares the same 23.9x23.9mm footprint (19mm diameter emitter) as existing CXA2520 and 2530 devices and can therefore share their connectors and optics.

Nominal output is 5,000 lm (1.1A 37V 85°C) for 5,000K cool white (122 lm/W) and 4,400 lm for 3,000K warm white (108lm/W). These can be pushed to 8,100 and 7,000 respectively at 86W (2.1A) 55°C.

"CXA2540 and 3050 LED arrays use the same package technology as the CXA1507 which now has 6,000 hours of LM-80 data published and is able to support TM-21 calculated lifetimes of greater than 130,000 hours at binning current, and greater than 85,000 hours at maximum current," claimed the firm.

Samples are available now and "production quantities are available with standard lead times", said the firm.

To help lighting manufacturers get started, Cree has three published reference designs: a PAR30 replacement, a 6" (150mm) downlight and a track light for retail.
