Everlight Had January Consolidated Revenues of NT$1.653 Billion Growing on Month and Year

Taiwan-based LED packaging house Everlight Electronics had January consolidated revenues of NT$1.653 billion (US$56.0 million) growing on month and year. According to the firm, demand for traditional lamp products has been weak but orders for other products have been healthy.

Due to fewer working days in February, the month's revenues will likely show a slight decrease compared to January. However, the firm believes revenues in the first quarter of 2013 will outperform those in the fourth quarter of 2012.

LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar posted NT$1.352 billion in January revenues, an increase of 6.8% on month and 25.9% on year. Epistar noted orders have been strong and demand for high-end LED chips has been healthy. The firm added that capacity utilization rate has been around 70% and expects sales growth in March.

Formosa Epitaxy reported January consolidated revenues of NT$304 million. Formosa Epitaxy stated that demand for backlight products has been growing significantly since late January. Orders from South Korea- and China-based customers have been increasing, said the firm.

China's government recently announced plans to eliminate all incandescent lighting above 60W by 2015. The government also targets semiconductor lighting output value to grow to CNY450 billion (US$72 billion) by 2015, and in particular, the output value of LED lighting is targeted at CNY180 billion. China-based LED firms are expected to benefit significantly from the policies.

Competition from China-based firms is expected to grow in 2013. According to market research institutes, the LED chip capacity of China-based Sanan Optoelectronics is likely to exceed Epistar in 2013.
