Norway-based dairy producer, distributor and exporter TINE has selected Tetra Pak’s new bio-based LightCap 30 on Tetra Brik Aseptic (TBA) Edge for a range of products.
TINE's Piano vanilla sauce, TINE iced coffee, iced tea and chocolate milk will come in the TBA Edge packs with the new high density polyethylene (HDPE) cap LightCap 30, which is made from sugar cane.
Made from about 75% renewable resources, Tetra Pak's TBA Edge is available with bio-based cap, offering an opportunity to the dairy producer to improve the environmental profile of its products.
According to the Swedish food packaging and processing company, the renewable polyethylene used in the cap starts out as sugar cane, which is crushed and the juice fermented and distilled to produce ethanol.
Through dehydration process ethanol is converted into ethylene, which is then polymerized to produce the polyethylene used to manufacture the cap.
Tetra Pak Environmental Innovation product manager Erik Steijger said the development of the bio-based cap is another vital step towards the company's goal of producing a 100% renewable packaging solution.
"This launch demonstrates our continued commitment to environmental innovation and providing customers, retailers and consumers with the highest level of environmental performance for their packaging," Steijger said.
