Commercial Trucks Is Moving Its U.S. Headquarters and Opening a New Factory

A manufacturer of seats and interiors for commercial trucks is moving its U.S. headquarters and opening a new factory that is expected to create hundreds of jobs, the Associated Press reported.

German auto parts maker Grammer AG said it will move its base of operation from Wisconsin to Mississippi and open a factory in the community of Shannon, Miss., that will employ up to 650 people.

The company, based in Amberg, Germany, will invest $30 million in the facility over five years. It plans to open the first phase by the end of the year. The company plans to hire 350 workers in the first phase and 300 in the second phase, AP said.

Not counting some tax breaks, state and local governments plan to invest $22.5 million to support the plant’s construction. The state will spend $10.8 million to build out the plant, move equipment to the site and train workers.

Grammer will occupy an 80,000-square-foot building, with plans to expand by 40,000 square feet in the second phase.

Grammer opened a warehouse in Wisconsin in 2011 and started making seats there in 2005. The company operates in 17 countries, with annual revenue of more than $1.5 billion.
