CB&I's OCT Has Been Chosen by China's Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group

NYSE-listed CB&I’s proprietary Olefins Conversion Technology (OCT) has been chosen by China’s Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group Co. Ltd to set up a petrochemical plant which will produce polymer grade propylene.

CB&I said it has been awarded a contract by Shenhua Ningxia for the license and engineering design of a grassroots petrochemicals complex to be built in Ningxia – China.

Shenhua Ningxia will use CB&I’s Conversion Technology (OCT) to produce 196,000 metric tons per annum of polymer grade propylene and its Comonomer Production Technology (CPT) to produce and recover 20,000 MTA of comonomer grade 1-butene.

The plant will also use the latest CDHydro selective hydrogenation technology from CB&I, which allows the incorporation of different feed from the adjoining steam cracker into the downstream OCT unit.

Additionally, CDIsis technology from CB&I will provide the conversion of isobutene into normal butenes, which increases the potential polymer grade propylene available from the steam cracker C4s.

"OCT is the most widely used technology for on-purpose polymer grade propylene and this project further demonstrates CB&I's capability to integrate our broad technology portfolio to meet our customers’ needs", Daniel McCarthy, President of CB&I's Technology Group said.

Earlier this week, CB&I announced it has been awarded a contract by Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen S.A. (PKN) for the license and engineering design of a new on-purpose propylene production unit to be located in Plock, Poland.

The Polish plant will use the same technology picked by Shenhua Ningxia to produce 100,000 metric tons per annum of propylene.
