Ginsters Has Selected Hitachi Capital Refrigerated Box Van for Its Supply Chain Operations

UK-based bakery manufacturer Ginsters has selected Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Solutions’ a prototype refrigerated box van for its supply chain operations.

According to Hitachi Capital, the new aerodynamic box body design of the vehicle with a wavy roofline and streamlined Thermo King cab-mounted fridge unit aims to reduce fuel consumption by up to 5%.

The vehicle is based on a Mercedes Sprinter 3.5 ton GVW chassis and will run for six months similar to a regular box van on identical routes where its fuel consumption will be monitored through an on board telematics system.

Ginsters fleet continuous improvements manager Andrew Gibbons said, "Our fleet of box vans carry out the very high profile role of delivering our bakery products into thousands stores across the UK on a daily basis and we are looking forward to seeing the results of the trial."

Hitachi Capital will supply more than fifty of Ginsters vans on a contract by the end of this year on four year deal.
