Spotify Now Has 15 Million Paying Subscribers

Spotify has just announced that it now has 15 million subscribers paying for its premium service.

This brings Spotify’s total active users to somewhere north of 60 million globally.

The streaming service made the announcement in a blog post earlier today, titled “15 for ’15!”

“We had an amazing 2014 at Spotify and owe it all to you, the music fans who listen, discover, share and celebrate music and artists with us every day of the year,” read the post.

“So as we set off into the new year, we want to send a giant thank you to all of you. We can’t wait for the year in music ahead!”

The new figures shed light on recent mass uptake of Spotify’s premium service, as the total paying subscribers was 10 million back in May 2014.

This means the service grew by 5 million new paying subscribers in just six months, probably helped by the festive deal that saw three months of premium membership go for just £0.99.

Rewind the clock once to March 2013 and the service had a much lower 6 million paying subscribers, marking 2014 as a strong year for Spotify.

To commemorate the latest user stats, Spotify has released a ’15 Million Thank Yous’ playlist.

The new playlist features tracks like ‘I Just Want To Celebrate’ by Rare Earth, ‘Run This Town’ by Jay Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West, and ‘Rock And Roll’, by Led Zeppelin.
