Volvo has announced significant updates for its mid-sized family, with the Volvo S60 sedan, Volvo V60 wagon and Volvo XC60 SUV all featuring revised styling, interior upgrades and fuel economy improvements.

The most obvious changes are visible at the front, where all Volvo three models take on a more refined, conservative look. The S60, V60 and XC60 gain broader, frameless grilles with a larger, more assertive ironmark badge.

The redesigned headlights are now simpler holistic fixtures, doing away with the small rectangular inner lights of the current models, while the lower air intakes are now finer and integrated into the foglight surrounds.

The windscreen washer nozzles have been relocated out of sight under the bonnet while the radar cover has been painted gloss black to make it a less obvious feature of the grille.

Fresh 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheel designs are available across the S60, V60 and XC60 ranges, while specific engine variants can be optioned with integrated tailpipes to refine the look at the rear.

Cabin upgrades across the trio include new upholstery materials and colours, new wood inlays, new headliners and brushed metal frames around the air vents and light controls.

Volvo’s new Sensus Connected Touch enables 4G connectivity and allows full internet browsing functionality and access to a specialised App Store via the seven-inch touchscreen display, which, in a world first, employs technology enabling it to be operated with gloves on.

The adaptive digital instrument cluster display – which debuted in the V40 – is also available in selected models across the S60, V60 and XC60 line-ups.

While the engines’ power and torque figures carry over, Volvo says fuel consumption has improved across its range petrol and diesel units.

Volvo has also upgraded the cars’ safety systems. City Safety with pedestrian detection and full auto braking is standard across the three model lines, and now works at speeds up to 50km/h.

Other technical enhancements include the availability of an enhanced blind spot information system, rear cross traffic alert program, road sign information system, low-speed cornering lights, active high beam control, heated windscreen, and a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters.

Volvo Australia says the updated S60, V60 and XC60 model lines will arrive in local showrooms towards the end of the year.
