Smurfit Kappa Launches Eco-Friendly New Type of Packaging for Motor Oil

Smurfit Kappa has developed the new Bag-in-Box product for the automotive industry, which the company claims will protect and conserve the motor oil.

The company said the motor oil has traditionally been stored in plastic bottles that use about 85% more material than the new Bag-in-Box solution.

The new packaging solution has been designed by combining polyethylene and nylon films, which contains aroma and avoids the oil particles from migrating.

Due to strong seals and tough film, the new bag is also said to be resistant against flex-cracking.

The new Bag-in-Box product will also help car repair shops to avoid the stocking of space-occupying plastic bottles or the heavy drums.

With various different types of motor oil on one rack, the rectangular Bag-in-Box product can be stocked on a rack and connected on a distribution system.

Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box CEO Thierry Minaud said: “The most recent disruptive innovation in motor oil packaging is more than 30 years old.

“Now it’s time to move to a more environmentally-friendly packaging, which Bag-in-Box definitely is.”

Recently, Smurfit Kappa and Vitop have introduced a new handle for use on a range of of cardboard boxes.

The Vitop handle is claimed to be made from 100% recyclable polyethylene. Smurfit Kappa said the handle is soft and smooth. It has been launched in black and white colours.
