Toonstar Toys Is Confident of The Collectables Market in The New Year

ToonStar Toys is confident that its range of pop culture inspired action figures is destined for the collectables market in the New Year.

Featuring a cast of recognisable faces from popular movies, TV series and boy bands, ToonStar Toys plays parody upon many of today’s pop icons.

In preparation for the New Year and the expected success of the range, Toonstar Toys has launched its website, featuring characters inspired by Breaking Bad, Pulp Fiction and One Direction.

Under license from the ToonStar brand, the line of unofficial merchandise has already been met with good reception across Europe, and the firm’s director, David Kanter believes its success can now be mirrored in the UK.

“We are confident that the range is destined for the collectables market here in the UK,” he said. “Feedback has been good from distributors in Germany and France, so we are now trying to get awareness out there in the UK.”

And part of Kanter’s mission to get the ToonStar Toys brand out to UK retailers, is overcoming the range’s most obvious hurdle and informing the public on the laws of copyright.

“Even though the characters are recognisable, there is no reference made to character names,” he said.

“With names like Spirit Hunters, Cooks, Evolution and Hit Men, the range falls under parody. And because they are caricatures, there is no infringement. There has also been a recent change in the copyright law, so we can now do characters that we couldn’t have done before.”
