Valspar Has Signed a Long Term Agreement

Paint and coatings producer Valspar has signed a long term agreement to supply waterborne coating for shipping containers manufactured by Maersk Container Industry (MCI).

Under the deal, Valspar will supply its Aquaguard waterborne coating for shipping containers manufactured in Maersk's facility in Dongguan, China.

Following the signing of the deal, a share of dry goods containers production is expected to shift from solvent borne coatings to Valspar Aquaguard waterborne coating, while MCI is planning to start usage of Valspar Aquaguard in 2014.

MCI Dongguan managing director Irving Hultengren said the company's agreement with Valspar reinforces its proposal to build sustainable containers.

"By using Valspar's innovative waterborne coating system, we will help our customers and reduce the environmental footprint of our production," Hultengren added.

Valspar Aquaguard is a waterborne coating system that replaces high VOC, solvent based coatings, while decreasing energy use and lowers emissions.

The two-coat system cuts down VOCs by 94% and also improves corrosion performance, according to Valspar.
