Bosch Demonstrated Its Rotary Pen Assembly Machine Mra for The Medical Devices Industry

Bosch Packaging Technology has demonstrated its rotary pen assembly machine MRA for the medical devices industry, at Achema in Frankfurt, Germany.

The device, designed by Bosch subsidiary Moeller & Devicon, assembles pens or injectors utilized for treating diabetes, autoimmune diseases, hormone replacement therapies and emergency machines, among others.

Moeller & Devicon sales director Michael Andersen said: "We introduced the MRA to the market at last year's Interpack in Germany. Since then, we have refined the technology by cooperating with several manufacturers of pens and auto-injectors, and have adapted the assembly processes for different models.

"The flexible and modular design of the MRA platform enables an upgrade with further process steps, such as laser engraving of the pens or serialization."

Pen caps, cartridge holders, cartridges and dosing mechanisms can be fed into the machine, which integrates the four parts in one go. Besides, the products defectively assembled are sorted out and dumped by the device.

The machine outputs four pens at a time, at the rate of 70 per minute.

MRA provides room to be integrated with upstream and downstream equipment, such as labeling and cartoning machines.

"The flexible and modular design of the MRA platform enables an upgrade with further process steps, such as laser engraving of the pens or serialization," Anderson added.
