AgroFresh Solutions has invested in RipeLocker and its proprietary system for low-pressure vacuum containers which are designed to extend the shelf life and reduce the decay of perishable produce.
Using a patent pending system, RipeLocker develops a portable solution which can maintain the atmospheric pressure, humidity and gas composition, thus preserving the quality of perishable fruits and vegetables.
AgroFresh Solutions CEO Jordi Ferre said: “RipeLocker is another potential avenue for AgroFresh to expand into new technologies serving the high-value segments of the produce industry, including the organic segment of the market.
“We are pleased to be making an early investment in RipeLocker, and excited about the prospects for its technology.”
The solution also aims to provide an inexpensive means for the food industry to maintain the quality of the produce as it goes through harsh operating and environmental conditions along the post-harvest distribution chain.
In September, AgroFresh and C2Sense have co-developed new sensors to observe ethylene and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), the active ingredient in SmartFresh post-harvest technology.
The newly developed sensors, which were already installed in select storage rooms in North America and Europe, are intended to provide real-time information for better insights into the condition of fruit in refrigerated and controlled atmosphere storage rooms.
AgroFresh currently provides new products and specialty services to maintain freshness, quality and value of fresh produce and flowers.
