Wayfair.Com Had Record Cyber Monday Sales This Year Topping $9 Million, a 50% Increase

Online home furnishings and decor retailer Wayfair.com said it had record Cyber Monday sales this year topping $9 million, a 50% increase from the previous year. The company sold one item every 1.3 seconds on Cyber Monday, Dec. 2.

Over the long holiday weekend from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday, the company said it had $25 million in sales, a 56% increase over the same period last year.

Sales from smartphones and tablets played a key role in Wayfair.com's business with mobile sales on Black Friday up threefold over last year, the company said. In total, mobile sales made up 30% of orders throughout the Thanksgiving weekend for the retailer.

Wayfair said its flash sales business, Joss & Main, contributed to the growth with a 137% increase in mobile sales for the long holiday weekend over last year.

"We have worked hard to build an amazing shopping experience that offers not just top value and selection but also inspiration and ideas," said Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair.com. "It's great to see the experience resonating with shoppers in search of exciting options for gift giving, home decorating and entertaining."

This year, the company began launching holiday deals on Nov. 11, two weeks earlier than prior years. Wayfair.com shoppers purchased a variety of items for the home with top weekend sellers including SodaStreams, bean bags, trampolines, play kitchens, cookware sets and TV mounts.
